ECHO Newsletter April 2010
Our Easter course has been a great success. Our students and teachers spent a lot of quality time with each other, studying, eating, cooking, visiting places of interest, doing sports, acting, singing, dancing, reading, watching films and speaking and learning a lot of English.
Our ‘Intensive Course’ students did a lot of work in preparation for their final school and university entrance exams, analyzing and writing a large variety of texts, from Shakespeare to newspaper articles, from poetry to creative writing or presenting an argument, increasingly well.
The ‘Seniors’ also did some good writing, as well as enjoying a program of sport, entertainment and visits to Brighton.
Some of the younger ones on the ‘Junior Course’ went from having some difficulty with basic communication when they first arrived to speaking and listening quite well two weeks later, thanks to our ‘English All Day’ rule, as well as consolidating their grammar and vocabulary which will help them in the summer term at school and, in one case, life in Dubai!
CONGRATULATIONS also to our Easter teachers - Emily, Dermot, Dylan and Alex – who were all at Echo in the summer. Dermot and Dylan, activities organizer extraordinaire, have been with us since 2007, and my son Alex, the Director of Studies, since 1991.
I look forward to seeing all of them, Leigh, who was also with us last summer, and Saph, our young new member of staff who has taught in many parts of the world. Alex’s wife Carmen, with the invaluable help of Ludka, will, as in other years, be making sure the students’ food (our kitchen has been awarded 5 stars for food hygiene by the council for the second consecutive year) and general welfare is up to the high standards that students and parents have come to expect of us. I also look forward to seeing the many students who are coming back to us, and meeting the ones we haven’t met, from 27th June to 29th August 2010, when we hope to run a summer course as productive and enjoyable as the one which has just finished.
Warm regards to all
Estrid
